Find Your New Home > New Home Buying Guide
Congratulations on your decision to purchase a Jones Construction home! Buying a new home can easily feel overwhelming, especially when it's your first time. At Jones we aim to make the process as easy and painless as possible, answering any questions along the way. Plus, you have the added security of knowing your home is being built using quality materials and construction methods, with EnergyStar certification.
Below are the steps to except during the home buying process:
1. Pre-qualify for your home mortgage
We can recommend trusted loan officers, or you can go with a bank of your chosing. Being pre-qualified gives you a ballpark figure to work with when selecting a community, floorplan, customizations, etc.
2. Select a community and floorplan, or draft your own
Once you know how much home you can afford, you need to decide where you want tobuild. We have numerous floorplans already available that you can choose from and/or modify. Additionally, being a custom builder, we can help you draft a new floorplan that will best meet the needs of your family while conforming to community guidelines. Feel free to view our communities and floorplans.
3. Choose your options, upgrades, and colors
We work with local suppliers to bring you the highest-quality, lowest-priced options available in the area. Our staff can guide you through and options or upgrades you may desire, while keeping your budget in mind. Model homes are also available to give you a better idea of what your interior will look like. If you're feeling overwhelmed, we can offer suggestions that will make your new home shine.
4. Construction
This can occur concurrently with step 3 (don't worry, you don't need to know your interior color scheme before the walls have gone up!). Your primary contact throughout the construction process will be your sales coordinator. As your home is being built, you may notice small things you want added (an exterior door, skylights, etc). Minor modifications may still be possible if they are caught early enough in the process. We also offer a checklist of the construction process so you can keep up on the latest status of your home. This will be available under My Jones Home once you've signed the contract with us.
5. Walk-Through
Once your home has been completed, you will be taken through on a final walk-through to ensure that there are no problems and that the home meets your expectations.
6. Insuring your new home
Your home is a substantial investment, and one that needs protecting. Before closing on your new, custom-built home, you will need to have in insured. Jones Construction is happy to provide you with a list of companies which offer home insurance, if you don't know where to start. Oftentimes, insuring your home with the same company as your car(s) can provide you with a substantial discount. Be sure to shop around, but also make sure that the coverage you select is adequate.
6. Closing on your new home!
We will help you set a date to meet with your loan officer to sign all the paperwork. Once the paperwork is finished, ownership, and the keys, will be transferred to you. Congratuations, you are the proud owner of a new Jones Construction home!!!!
